You’re in. Here’s what to try, and how to tell me when it breaks

Olamide AgboolaMaker of Riffl

You are one of the first hundred people to use Riffl. That means you are seeing it before it is finished, and the things you notice in the next two weeks will shape what everyone else eventually gets. This page is the whole brief: what to try, what is deliberately missing, and how to tell me when something breaks.

Settings → Report a bug or idea. The chat opens with the report already written — add a screenshot and send.

Start with a real receipt. Not a tidy one. The crumpled POS slip at the bottom of your bag is a better test than a clean invoice, because that is what the app has to survive. Point the camera at it, let Riffl read it, and check the four things that matter: the amount, the merchant, the date, and the items. If any of them is wrong, that is a report — see below.

Then a bank alert. Screenshot an alert from your own bank and scan that. Riffl knows around thirty Nigerian institutions, and the ones it does not know are exactly what I need to hear about. If your bank writes its alerts in a format Riffl mangles, that is the single most useful thing you can send me.

Do it a few times over a week. Riffl only becomes itself once there is a handful of transactions in it — the weekly review, the basket breakdown and the price history all need something to work with. One scan tells you the reader works. Ten scans tell you whether the app is worth keeping.

What is missing on purpose. There is nothing to buy. Every Plus feature is open, free, for everyone in early access — audits, budgets with pace, savings goals, sync, reports. Pricing and paid plans arrive at public launch and you will get an email before anything changes. So if you find yourself looking for a subscribe button and not finding one, that is the design, not a bug.

AI scans are capped at 200 a month. That is the full Plus allowance, and it resets on the 1st. It is a runaway bound rather than a product limit — high enough that ordinary testing never meets it. Camera capture and manual entry are unlimited regardless.

iPhone is coming, and is not here yet. Around thirty of you joined on iOS. Riffl is Android-only today because Apple’s company enrolment is still working through Nigerian paperwork. Your Founding Riffler serial is reserved and waiting — it does not expire, and nobody else can be given it.

How to report something. In the app: Settings → Report a bug or idea. It opens a WhatsApp chat with me, already filled in. Add a screenshot and send. That is the whole process — there is no form, no bug tracker, and no ticket number.

A screenshot is worth more than a paragraph. The fastest report I can act on is a picture of the screen where it went wrong, plus one line about what you expected instead. If a scan read something incorrectly, send the receipt photo too — that lets me reproduce it exactly rather than guessing.

Nothing is too small. A word that reads oddly, a button that does not feel tappable, a number that looks wrong for a second before it settles. Those are the reports that make an app feel finished, and they are the ones people usually talk themselves out of sending. Send them.

If you would rather not use WhatsApp, reply to the invite email instead and it reaches the same place. Either way a human reads it — there is only one of us.
